I've decided to stop doing my weekly reviews here. Fear not though, because I'm not stoping them! Instead, I'm moving over to a much larger Rock Band fan site, RockBandAide.com. Thanks for all the support over here and I hope you'll continue to read me over at RockBandAide!The Rock Herohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03530684359993148639noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8808879650049348642.post-69873811946132720272012-07-06T09:58:00.002-04:002012-07-06T09:58:49.319-04:00DLC 7/10: Daughtry

I'll admit, the last couple of weeks have been kind of a wash for me. Hopefully this week will be more my speed, and don't forget, we could be receiving either The B-52's or Daughtry this week!
I'll admit, I wasn't too fond of Carrie Underwood, but will this week's DLC be something a bit more to my speed?

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">All-American Rejects - Gonzo

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">The guitar here was really simple. Up until the second verse, the part consists solely of long notes at a slow pace. Unfortunately, this part does come back often. The second verse is easily the most interesting part of the song, it features a slew of notes all over the fretboard, albeit at a moderate pace. Then it's back to the long, slow notes, until the chorus where it's some moderately paced chords with only a couple sections that really need to be alt-strummed. The bass here was infinitely more fun than the guitar part. It kicks of with a short and simple bass solo and goes in to some moderately fast notes littered with chords. The whole part plays more like a guitar part when push comes to shove, with it's use of chords and whatnot. The keys are fairly easy, with a few fast parts that, while they don't look all too fast, can end up breaking your combo. The rest of the keys part can be done really easily, and as someone who's strongest instrument is not keys, I managed to get 99%, with just the fast notes throwing me off.
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Mudvayne - Happy?
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">The guitar part here is pretty chord heavy, and not just your everyday chords either. It uses chords like GRB and RYO pretty excessively, and whether or not it's to the detriment of the song, I don't know. I personally enjoyed playing the song but I found it awkward at many points in the song. This bass part also is loaded with bass chords, and not just that but also bass chord HOPOs. Like the guitar, I found the bass to be very awkward to play through and, unfortunately, I didn't really enjoy it all that much. Not much going on with the keys during this song. I'm pretty sure that the maximum score you can possibly get is 6620 if you hit all the notes, hold all the notes and use your overdrive optimally.
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Rise Against - Satellite
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">The guitar intro is incredibly annoying to say the least. It's an alt-strummed section that put a few chords in to the pattern and the amount of times I've had my combo broken on sections like these is ridiculous, often due to the fact that I don't keep the chord held long enough, or I keep it held too long. The rest of the song is pretty simple, with maybe only a few fast parts, but nothing too unmanageable. The bass starts off quickly and rarely ever loses it's pace. With the possible exception of one section, and the part where it's just drums and vocals, the actual pattern doesn't change at all, except to change frets.
Now, as an artist, I'm pretty meh on Carrie Underwood, but will that stop me from liking the DLC?

Before He Cheats

Here we have a country song about heartache. I love your originality Carrie! Although, country songs in Rock Band do have a tendency to be fairly enjoyable on guitar, this is not one of those cases. The entire song can be down-strummed, and the notes are fairly far apart. In fact, I'm willing to wager that my cousin, who hasn't played any music game since shortly after Guitar Hero 3 was the hottest thing on the Wii and was never able to get past medium, could beat this song on Expert. The bass on the other hand is quite fun. It's filled with HOPOs that will surely keep you on your toes, as well as take you all over your fretboard. Not much else to say really. The keys are a bit of a challenge, they've got a few fills here and there, nothing that a seasoned keys player would find all that difficult though. As someone who will only ever play drums for the sake of these reviews, when I can get 98% on a sightread of a drum song, you know it's easy. There is exactly one beat; snare, cymbal, snare, cymbal/bass, snare, cymbal, ect. Granted, the cymbal will change at different moments in the song and there may be the odd fill here and there but the actual drum part is incredibly easy, and maybe even a little boring.

Cowboy Casanova

Here is a country song with "cowboy" in the title. Where on Earth do you get your ideas Carrie?!? Although Carrie Underwood songs (so far) have a tendency to have crap guitar parts, this one is actually rather enjoyable. It's not all that hard but it has got some tricky bits going for it. If someone can explain to me how on Earth Before He Cheats got a tier 3 difficulty rating but this only got a 2, it would be greatly appreciated. The part does use HOPO chords a bit excessively but fortunately they are easy to hit, save for possibly one part in the chorus where it moves quickly between 3 HOPO chords. The other part of the song that was difficult is during the bridge, where there are some moderately quick notes coming that require some minor alt-strumming. It seems that this week, the good guitar songs have crap bass and the crap guitar songs have good bass. The bass on this is one of the more boring things I've played so far this week, and that includes JAM Live Music Arcade. The main problem with the bass is that it just doesn't go anywhere, you just do the same monotonous patterns over and over again until the song ends. The keys are easily the hardest part of the week. They're all over the place, fast as well as being incredibly complex. I would keep away from them unless you are an excellent keys player. The drums here are rather difficult due to the awkwardness of the bass pedal throughout. I personally found it overwhelming, but as I mentioned, the only reason I play drums is for these reviews. I'm sure that a more dedicated drummer would have no problem with this and find it fun.

Good Girl

I wanted to make a quip about how generically country the lyrics of this song are, but, save for the chorus, I wouldn't really consider this country, more pop-rock. The actual guitar part was really fun, featuring a few little challenges here and there. Nothing major, but just enough to keep the part interesting. As a dedicated guitarist though, none of the songs are amazing enough to want me to come back and play them again. As far as bass goes, it's not all that great. The chorus is somewhat interesting but the rest of the song is littered with long breaks or one note sections. In fact, one could say that the bass part is as bland as an American Idol alumni. The drums here are incredibly fun, easily the best drumming song of the week. The difficulty here doesn't come from the awkward bass pedal, but rather the interesting toms. On PRO Drums that gets made even harder by the constant moving between cymbals and toms for what becomes a very fun song to play.
Angels & Airwaves - The Adventure

The guitar on this song made my hand cramp up due to all the moving that is required to hit the main section of the song. It constantly moves from green to orange to green and it doesn't stay on any note for long. The only time that isn't true is during the bridge where it's a steady stream of chords played at a reasonable pace. I did enjoy the guitar part though. I found the bass on this song to be a bit lacking compared to the guitar part. The guitar part was a challenging, yet fun, stream of notes that take you all over your fretboard where as the bass is just a long string of repeated notes. That's not to say that there is only one note played throughout the song, but it's not a challenge to get to the next note. The keys are definitely weaker than the guitar and bass. The part is composed of a simple 6 note riff and a bunch of sustains. I found myself to be incredibly bored with this part after a while.

Owl City - Fireflies

I honestly didn't even know that there was any guitar in this song. I know that it was in Guitar Hero (where it was immensely fun) but there you're tapping the keyboard part for the majority of the song. Here, because there actually IS keyboard in the game, you are not tapping the keyboard part for the guitar chart and boy does it suffer! There is a lot of waiting inbetween choruses so that leaves you with nothing to do. This is easily the worst guitar part since Bruno Mars' "Grenade", and at least with that one once you're finished playing your one section, you can make some food or use the bathroom. While their bass doesn't have as much empty space as the guitar, the bass still manages to be worse. It's just simple bass patterns that comprise 15 note maximum or long held notes during the chorus. I was really disappointed, considering that most of the Pop/Dance/Electronic songs on Rock Band seem to have really good bass. Holy crap, this keys part is hard, but at the same time REALLY fun! Remember why I liked the guitar part in Guitar Hero? Because of the fact that it comprised of you tapping the keys part and when you get to play the whole keys part here instead of cutting to the guitar part it's immensely fun. Given the fact that this is an electronic song, you'd expect the keys part to be good. The whole song will take you all over your keyboard, especially the chorus where you play three notes very quickly. All in all, very fun!

Queens of the Stone Age - In My Head

The guitar part can be described in one word: chordfest. Despite this, I did sort of enjoy it. It could be because the part is actually fun or it could be that Fireflies was so awful everything is fun in comparison. Even with this, it's not the sort of part that I'd be rushing to play again and when I'm in the mood to play some QotSA, I'd probably go with 3's & 7's or No One Knows. The part does however have the one guitar solo of the week so I guess there is something to be said for that! The bass here mirrors the guitar for most of the song, just without all the chords. Given the fact that the guitar wasn't terrible, the bass also wasn't terrible. As a matter of fact, the bass was slightly better than the guitar because of some of the fills that were added into the bassline. Still not phenomenal, but pretty good. Do you like keys parts where you play the same chord more than 300 consecutive times before getting some really easy sustained notes before getting to play the same chord another 300 times? If so than this is the part for you! If, however, you happen to be normal, then I'd stay away from this keys part unless you're looking to get a goal for a Keys/PRO Keys note streak.

Pick of the week: The Adventure
What should you buy: The Adventure. Fireflies if you're a keys player.
Hello there! This is a new feature I thought I'd try out. There have been a few people to ask me on Twitter (and in person) if I was ever going to review Rock Band Network DLC. My original plan was to just not do it but just recently I thought that rather than do all the songs, just pick one or two new songs to review each week. The songs will be chosen either at random, or of it's a song I know/like then that'll be what I choose. Hope you enjoy! Because Tuesday is the only day I'm guaranteed to be with my Xbox that's when the review will be put up. Hope you enjoy this feature!
The Rock Herohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03530684359993148639noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8808879650049348642.post-81762114321801225222012-06-12T16:21:00.000-04:002012-06-12T16:21:23.179-04:00DLC 6/12: "Drive" by Incubus

Well, licensing is hard. Will I like this sole piece of DLC?

I legitimately like this song. I think it's really good. Granted, it's not as good as A Certain Shade of Green, but that's easily Incubus' best song. I found the guitar on this song to be rather disappointing. It's littered with G-O chords, which cause the chart to feel extremely awkward, and as a whole very little of note happens in the chart. There is a solo in the song, but really, the acoustic part that you play for the rest of the song is much more interesting. The solo, I feel would have been better given as a small little keys part. It does after all have that sound to it. Don't let it's mellow sound and tier 2 difficulty fool you, the bass is rather tricky. When it starts out it actually is pretty easy but then the chorus hits. It doesn't get hard, it just gets tricky. While most of the chorus is pretty easy there are a couple sections of a few strums mixed in with a set of HOPOs which can throw you off course. The drums here were pretty easy. It featured the same simple pattern repeated for almost the whole song. The only real change comes during the chorus, where you're still doing the same thing but it's on the ride instead of the hi-hat. It wasn't terrible though as the bass pedal didn't always match up exactly to the cymbal hit so there was that little bit of challenge. Outside of that though, it was really quite easy and sometimes a little dull.

This week's *ahem* underwhelming DLC announcement came with a silver lining. We found out that Queens of the Stone Age, The B-52's and Daughtry are going to be coming to Rock Band. No word on what songs though.
The Rock Herohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03530684359993148639noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8808879650049348642.post-44918787046091380362012-06-05T18:30:00.000-04:002012-06-10T13:36:16.700-04:00DLC 6/5: Cracker, Florence + The Machine and Midnight Oil

Well, my first instinct is WHERE IS BEDS ARE BURNING?!?!?!? but I've got a feeling we'll be seeing it on Rock Band Blitz. With that said, will I like the DLC?

Cracker - "Teen Angst (What the World Needs Now)

Overall, the guitar part isn't that bad, in fact, I'd even play it more often if the vocals didn't annoy me so much. The part starts of with a moderately difficult intro where it progresses into the riff that comprises pretty much the whole song. That riff isn't all that interesting in itself. The solo at the end of the song is probably the most interesting section of the guitar part. It's not all that great of a solo but I did find it to be enjoyable. The bass wasn't as good as the guitar by any stretch of the imagination. The verses were the only bits of the song that aren't complete alt-strum-fests and unfortunately, I kind of wish they were. That really is all that happens in the bass part and it's kind of disappointing. The drums were fairly standard, with your standard rock beat throughout with little to no variation. With that being said, I didn't completely dislike it and I actually found it enjoyable to play through.

Florence + the Machine - "Dog Days are Over"

Songs that feature an intro where it's a series of chords but every other chord has a note added to it are horrible. Songs that feature that as a central part of the song are even worse. The chorus salvaged the song into something remotely playable by playing similarly to Teen Angst's bass, but it wasn't fun there and it isn't fun here. Whenever there are RB/GH parties there always seems to be an argument over who has to play bass. That's part of why I primarily play bass when playing with other people. Normally, I find the bass to be just as, if not more, fun than the guitar part. If this song were to come up in a random setlist however, I'd be the first one to argue against playing bass. Let me remind you that I did not like the guitar on this song. The song has EXACTLY 50 notes. That means that, unless you use overdrive, you will never be able hit notes with a multiplier of more than x5. When you DO actually get to play, it's one of the most boring things you possibly can play. Just a series of long notes, and I think that the orange fret it touched ONCE. This may very well be the worst bass part released in 2012. I'd just like to mention that I'm not the greatest keys player in the world. With that said, this part was so easy (and boring) that even I got an FC. The only part of the song that's remotely interesting is the end and to get to that you've got to dredge through the rest of the song where you just play long notes in an uninteresting pattern. The drums on the other hand, are really fun. The pattern is interesting to play and it changes up a fair bit. You could actually go on to say that it salvages the song from the otherwise terrible guitar, bass and keys parts!

Midnight Oil - "Power and the Passion"

I'm not sure if I like the guitar part or not. The parts that are fun are very fun. The parts that are boring are very boring. The fun parts are the most frequent parts of the song so I suppose that's a very strong plus. The most boring bit of the guitar part has got to be the drum solo, but then again, it is a drum solo. Instruments tend not to be playing during a drum solo. All in all, a surprisingly fun guitar part! When I play Rock Band with other people, it's songs like this that make me very, very glad that barely anyone wants to play bass. It's got one of the best bass parts I've played in a while because it features something I love in Rock Band; songs frequently changing without being an über-hard prog song. It even plays during the drum solo! The keys (well, horns really) on this song don't start until the songs outro after the third and final chorus. While it is a fun section to play, the fact that you have to wait through the whole song just to get to it just doesn't seem worth it. Unless you just skip through my reviews to get to the instrument you care about, you'd know that there is a drum solo in this song, but that's not the only place this drum part really shines! The main beat is a very interesting pattern, very different from your usual cymbal-cymbal/bass-cymbal-cymbal/snare-ect. pattern that most of the songs seem to feature.
Well, I'm not fond of this band or what they've had in RB/GH in the past, but will I like this DLC?

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
Tears Don't Fall

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">The guitar part is simply terrible. The worst part about it has to be it's verse sections. It stars one of my least favourite things in the game: GO chords. For those of you who haven't got a clue what those are, it's essentially a chord that consists of the green and orange frets. The reason they're so terrible is because of the fact that the green fret is at the top and the orange is at the bottom. Therefore, you've got to stretch your hand. On their own they're not so horrible but when they're in between other chords, like on this song, they're just a nightmare because of the constant stretching of the pinky to get to them. The bass wasn't too bad. It took some of the difficulty of the guitar, toned it down a bit while still keeping some challenge so that it's not terrible. The drums are really hard. Mostly because of the bass pedal there to constantly throw you off course. The actual song isn't that hard, most certainly not deserving of Devil-tier. Just because it's hard, doesn't mean I don't like it. I tend not to like drums on metal songs but I actually found this one to be enjoyable.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Scream Aim Fire

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">The first time I'd ever heard this song, or any Bullet for My Valentine, was in Guitar Hero World Tour. I thought it was absolutely horrible and I never played it again. This is essentially the first time I've played this song since 2008. I learned that my feelings toward this song have not changes at all in 4 years. With that said, the guitar part wasn't completely horrible, it definitely had it's moments. Sadly, those moments were few and far between. For the most part this song just screams difficulty whore. The worst part is, whenever you go online now, all your setlists are going to be this and Beast and the Harlot. Like Tears Don't Fall, the bass is a massive improvement on guitar. For many of the same reasons as well. It's difficulty is toned down from the guitar significantly and as someone who can't FC Raining Blood while sleeping drunk, it's nice to have something that isn't über difficult. The drums on the other hand, ARE über difficult. How they got away with being just tier 5 is beyond me. Everything about this is difficult, from the quick blasts on the pads to the awkward timing of the bass pedal nothing here is to be attempted by the faint of heart. Sadly though, I did not enjoy the drums.
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Your Betrayal
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Again, not a great guitar part. It wasn't completely terrible, but it just wasn't fun. There's a section at the beginning that lasts for about a minute that's reminiscent of a slowed down Through the Fire and Flames. While I personally dislike these songs on guitar, I'm sure that the fans of this type of music will love them. This, like the other two songs, has a better bass part than guitar part. Just like the other two, the reason why this bass part is superior is because of the fact that it's difficulty is toned down. Gone is the ridiculous Slow TTFaF intro and it opens up something that's actually fun to play! It's rather enjoyable actually! Drums were terrible on this song. The pattern was odd and not once did I feel as though it was an enjoyable part to play. It has nothing to do with the fact that it's hard, it has to do with the fact that it's boring as hell.
So, what do we know about this week's DLC? One song is over 12 minutes and it's not a good week for people who like songs under 5 minutes. We also know that HMX forum moderator Der_Lex is excited about it and that a lot of people will be excited for the announcement. With that in mind, let's see what's coming this week!

Iron Maiden is pretty awesome news if you ask me! Now if only they'd change the albums from Flight 666 on the old DLC...

Phantom of the Opera

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
The most interesting part of the guitar track was the intro and verse. Not to say that the other bits weren't good (although some of them did drag on a bit). The guitar part is incredibly difficult. Not necessarily Through the Fire and Flames difficult but still a good challenge. It will require lots of skill with HOPOs, lots of skill with shifting across the frets quickly and a bit of skill in alt-strumming too. The first solo is one of the easiest bits of the song but the second solo is one of the hardest. The bass part for the most part mirrors the guitar part with the exception of the solos. It also is just as difficult as the guitar part. It features the same intro and the same verse charts and the HOPO section in the middle is even longer on bass! There are very few vocal songs I feel warrant being Devil tier. Good Vibrations and Bohemian Rhapsody are two examples of what I conciser worthy of that tier. This song is NOT worthy of it at all! Outside of one note very little of the song went out of a reasonable range for most people and 4 of the 7 minutes of this song are spent just hitting vocal percussion notes (I think it's tambourine) and that gets to be rather boring after a while.

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
The Prisoner

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
While playing this on I was constantly thinking "why is this devil tiered?!?" Until I got to the bit just before the solo, that is. You see, what happens there is just a whole slew of HOPOs played across the frets at an increasingly quick speed before eventually just going fully into the solo. The rest of the song is tier 4 at best though so I'm torn as to whether or not it's over-tiered. The bass here was an overall more enjoyable experience than the guitar. It featured a lot of shifting across the fretboard while the guitar was doing a much less interesting thing on it's end. Compared to Phantom this song is much, much harder. At least for me it was. See, I feel that's one of the biggest problems with reviewing vocals (and why I hadn't done so for a while) because everyone has different vocal skills and range. With that being said, I found this song to be much harder than Phantom of the Opera because of the fact that the song encompasses many different ranges that I found hard to hit.

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
Flight of Icarus

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
As I had said about The Prisoner, outside of one little section the song is tier 4 at best on guitar. Coupled with the fact that this is the only song of the week under 6 minutes, this song is definitely more accessible to a more casual Rock Band player who's friends are pressuring them to get MOAR METAL!!!!! The part is actually pretty solid, even if it lacks the complexity of previous Maiden songs. As I'd mentioned before, pretty much all the complexity comes from the last bit of the solo at the end. That bit is still long enough for you to fail out though so if you're not on No-Fail and aren't good at hitting fast HOPOs then you should save your Overdrive until then, you're going to need it! The bass was unfortunately rather boring. Just 4 minutes of the same pattern with the only change coming during the chorus. Really disappointing after how much I liked the guitar. The vocals were rather difficult, for the same reason that The Prisoner was very difficult; Bruce Dickinson's range.

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
Rime of the Ancient Mariner

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
One of the only long songs I like playing in Rock Band is 2112. This is because my primary instrument is guitar and most long songs have a long, boring middle section where barely anything happens. On Child in Time it's anything that isn't a solo. Do You Feel Like We Do (Live) has the talk box section. The Who Super Bowl S-mashup has See Me, Feel Me. Rime of the Ancient Mariner has Bruce Dickinson reciting poetry. Don't get me wrong, all of those songs are really good to listen to but as I'm sure you know, just because a song is good to listen to doesn't mean it's a good song to play. Just look at Terrible Lie, it's one of my favourite Nine Inch Nails songs but I have it rated at only 2/5 on Rock Band because it's just 5 minutes of playing the same two notes for the most part. Once you get past the boring bit in the middle of this song it's actually pretty good to play. It's got a fun riff and a great solo. Ladies and gentlemen, I have got two words to summarize why this bass part is awesome: BASS SOLO! It's a pretty fun solo too. This song is actually one of my favourite bass songs on Rock Band. It features everything that I love in a Rock Band song, lots of changes to the pattern to keep it interesting, a challenging section and most of all, a solo! This song isn't bad to sing, but I think you all know what my main critique of it is! There just is WAY too much downtime for it not to get boring. I'd say that for about 9/13 minutes you're doing nothing or playing the cowbell. Also, who on Earth decided that this song was Family Friendly?!

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
Infinite Dreams

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
The guitar on this song should be at least tier 5. It's not as fast as the other songs in this pack by a long shot. It's filled with difficult HOPO sections, a rather hard solo and just an overall difficulty. It's tier would lead you to believe that it's only as hard as (Don't Fear) The Reaper, Monkey Wrench and Basket Case when in reality it's as hard as songs like Ace of Spades. It's also makes you think that it's the easiest Iron Maiden song, and while that may be true it's certainly not an easy song and you're surely going to be kept on your toes while playing it! While I liked the bass part, it didn't really stand out to me as being anything special. Sure, there were some challenging sections but the whole part just seemed a tad underwhelming compared to some of the other ones in the pack. The keys on this song are overtiered at tier 1. They'd be overtiered at tier 0 though. The problem with them is that the part is already rather boring and then add in the fact that there is about a total of 4 minutes where you do absolutely nothing and it makes for a really disappointing experience. The vocals on this song are incredibly low at first and then they make the jump up to incredibly high. This makes them incredibly difficult to hit and like most of the other songs in this pack, there is a large gap where you do barely anything.

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
Seventh Son of a Seventh Son

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
If you were to take any one of these sections on guitar alone, there would be nothing worthy of Devil tier. As a whole however, it is completely worthy of one because I can almost guarantee that there is no way you will make it past that bridge without your hand cramping up. The bridge is virtually all HOPOs played at the same pace as a song like Landslide but for a much longer time. Because of how much stretching your fingers will have to do for this rather long time you're going to start to have difficulty playing them because your fingers are just cramping up constantly and will stay that way right up until the solo! It seems as though the guitar and bass are taking different strategies during the bridge. The guitar is going to make your hands cramp up so much it'll hurt to play where as the bass seems to be going with the bore you so much that you just want to stop playing strategy. In all seriousness though, the bass was pretty meh throughout the whole song. The whole time it just felt like a dumbed down version of the guitar track. Shame I really, really wanted to like this one. The keys on this song suffer the same problem as Infinite Dreams in that there just isn't much going on and when something does happen it's after a 3 minute break. The only interesting part of the track comes at about 9 minutes in where you get to play (somewhat) quick notes across the keys. Outside of that, it's a great big pass. Yet another vocals song with a rather large gap in between phrases. I think this one lasts for about 5 minutes. The actual vocal parts though are fun to sing, it's just a shame that you have to sit through 5 minutes of nothing after the fact.
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
Now, I'm not a big Paramore fan but I've enjoyed their songs in the past. Will I like the DLC though?

Ignorance

I've got 4 words for this guitar part. Better than I expected. It's actually rather hard for a Paramore song. Don't let the fact that it's listed as 3rd tier fool you, it's actually quite the challenge! The solo is actually one of the songs easier bits simply featuring quick strummed chords. The verses are the bits you need to worry about! With every note being strummed (as is musically correct) and the fact that it takes you all across the frets you're sure to be challenged here! The bass track definitely lacks the difficulty of the guitar track during the verses. That being said, it's still a good playing experience and something I'd recommend for bassists. Keys were OK, nothing special though. Pretty weak compared to the guitar and bass parts. I'm not a good drummer by any stretch of the imagination. My friend is, but I digress. With that said, I found this drum part to be really challenging, but not in a Slayer sort of way. Instead this was challenging in a really fun sort of way.

Brick By Boring Brick

I've got 5 words for this guitar part. Pales in comparison to Ignorance. After playing Ignorance I must say that I'm actually rather underwhelmed by this part. It just doesn't have the same "funability" as Ignorance. I mean, it's not like it's a bad part but it's rather repetitive and just doesn't do too much for me. The bass part is better than Ignorance's bass part. There are a few empty parts during the guitar part that get to be played during the bass track! The only bit of this keys track that is remotely interesting is the last chorus ad it's really not worth hanging around for the rest of the song. Everything I said about Ignorance's drum part applies here too. Great drum part that's challenging but not so hard that I never want to play it again!

The Only Exception

I've got one word for this guitar part. Crap. I heard some people saying that this was one of the most boring guitar parts they'd played on Rock Band and as much as I tried to go into this song with an open mind because I don't always agree with the RB forums, this time I did agree with them. It doesn't start out too bad but it just bores you down with the exact same thing again and again and again and again to the point of ennui. If you have any intention of ever playing guitar then I'd step away from this one. I think Imagine has a more interesting guitar part. Damn is this song boring, but the guitar is a veritable Megadeth track compared to the bass part. Absolutely NOTHING happens in this song. I've got nothing against ballads in Rock Band. Every Rose Has It's Thorn is one of my favourite Rock Band songs, but I do have something against songs where I can fall asleep during it and not miss a single note. How this got a Pro upgrade is beyond me. Rather than bore you with more explanation about how the instrumentation on this song is boring I'll just tell you, keys and drums SUCK!
Some of you may have noticed that I didn't update the blog today with a review. For those of you that follow me on Twitter you'd have seen that I wasn't feeling too well today and that I just didn't feel up to writing it today. For those of you who aren't (seriously, why aren't you?!?), that's basically what happened. I'll probably do the review on the weekend because I won't have a chance to do so before then and this is a pack that I'd really like to review because I'd like to see how it holds up against the other Paramore DLC which is really fun!

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
Finally! I can play Bombtrack and not have to play the abomination that is PowerGig!

Killing in the Name

Killing in the Name, on Guitar Hero Smash Hits, was the first (and only) song that my mother seemed to not like me singing. The fact that I filled in the swearing wasn't the problem. The fact that it was really loud wasn't the problem either. Come to think of it, there wasn't much of a problem. There was however, an explanation about cross burning, the KKK and various other things that had been mentioned or alluded to in the song. She claims she doesn't remember this when I bring it up. Anyway, the guitar part is very hard. Not Visions hard but hard none the less. It's solo starts out with a slew of strum lanes that can easily break your combo and then it goes in to a bunch of HOPOs that are equally challenging! The actual riff isn't too bad though. There are some very fast alt-strum chords in a few parts as well. The bass part was to the guitar part what PowerGig is to a legitimate music game. A disappointing impersonation. The whole time it just felt like I was playing a dumbed down version of the guitar. It's disappointing, really. This drum part is ridiculously hard. It's bass pedal comes in at the most awkward of times with the most awkward patterns. It's pretty damn hard. The vocals on this one are all talkies so not much can be said about them. I did appreciate the way the censorship was handled in this one though. Rather than omit just "f*ck" from the end of the song they omitted the whole "f*ck you" so that it became "I won't do what you tell me!" as opposed to "you I won't do what you tell me!" Although it's kind of odd to hear him just shout "MOTHER!" at the end.

Bombtrack

The first solo is the easiest part of the guitar track. The second solo is, however, probably the hardest. That or the intro. I honestly thought that the intro was just bass and that the reason it was charted on the guitar part in PowerGig was because, let's face it, it's not a very good game (and there isn't any bass in the game). But I digress. The whole song was actually rather fun to play. The intro had a few trill lanes in it but they weren't too bad. Definitely not a hard song, in fact, if it wasn't for Bulls on Parade I'd say this was the easiest Rage song in the game. If you're the sort of person that prefers their songs to be über difficult then I wouldn't get this one. If, however, you don't necessarily need a song that will destroy every bone in your hands then I recommend picking this one up. It has a fair amount of challenge while still remaining approachable for most players. Bass on this song was just amazingly great! The intro is almost the same as guitar except for the fact that is does away with those stupid trill lanes. During the first solo on guitar, the bass does a nifty little HOPO section. The verses/chorus of the song are also very similar to the guitar part, just with less chords. The drums on this song are difficult too. It has an awkward bass pedal pattern combined with an awkward drum pattern. It makes the whole thing hard. Once again, the vocals are just talkies so not much can be said for them.

Sleep Now In the Fire

This is my least favourite guitar part of the week. Not because it's not good, but because it's just not AS good as Killing and Bombtrack. The riff feels a bit... awkward. You constantly need to shift your hand up and down the buttons to hit all the notes. The solo is fairly easy and has that Tom Morello signature sound on it but there's just not much of a challenge with it. This bass part is hard. Simple as that. Luckily though, it's hard in an enjoyable way. Unlike the other two, the bass doesn't mirror the guitar for the entire thing. In fact, the bass and the guitar rarely play significant parts together! Like the other two, this song has hard drums. Unlike the other two though, the difficulty doesn't come from it having an awkward bass drum part. Instead it comes from a difficult snare/cymbal pattern that's constantly playing during the verses. Like all the others, the vocals are just talkies so there's not much to review for them.

After taking a one week break, we're back! Will we like the DLC? Find out Tuesday!

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
First off, I want to say, I won't be reviewing drums this week. My drum kit doesn't want to stay connected to my Xbox. I've tried putting new batteries in but that didn't help. It's not staying connected long enough to get through one song. If anyone knows how to fix this please leave a comment or tweet me (@RockHeroCast).

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

Eddie Money's Two Tickets to Paradise - Chart

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
Well, the guitar is not easy. The two solos in this song are fun, I'll admit and while they are hard in that "oh, this is a good challenge and I enjoy playing this" sort of way, the verses are hard in that "wow, this is really annoying" way. It has an awkward alt-strumming pattern that actually dampens the enjoyability of the solos. It's a shame, really. The bass part consists solely of one riff. Fortunately, that riff is fun to play although the constant repetition can get boring after a while. Keys are pretty hard. There are loads of sweeps in the chart and awkward extended sustains throughout the song. Pro keys features some awkward four-key chords too. Unless you're a seasoned keys player I wouldn't attempt this one just yet!

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Train's Drops of Jupiter <span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">- Chart

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I liked the guitar more than I did on Two Tickets but, at the same time, I found it to feel boring at times. The part is pretty easy. On sightread, I missed just one note (and that's partially because my guitar disconnected).<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> It is a nice acoustic part<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> that doesn't feature too many changes. Amateur players will be challenged a bit with some of it's quick double-strums and chord changed but seasoned players will be able to whip through this one with no trouble at all. Like the guitar part, the bass is very, very easy. It's so easy, there are bits of it that verge on boredom! Even still, once the song pick up some speed, so does the bass part. That said, it's still not very fun and if you're a hardcore bassist I'd skip this one all together.<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> Keys were easier than I was expecting. Given the fact that they feature so predominately in this song, I was expecting them to be a real doozy!<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Yellowcard's Only One <span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">- Chart
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Are you a few thousand HOPOs short of getting HOPO-cidal Manicac? Are you sick and tired of playing Landslide to boost your amount? Then this is the song for you!<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> Except for the chorus and the bridge, the WHOLE DAMN SONG is just HOPOs. Now, fortunately, they're not hard to hit. In fact, it's very similar to Landslide in that respect. The chorus does give you a relief from the HOPOs though. It's probably the best guitar part of the week though, not too hard (Two Tickets) or too easy (Drops of Jupiter). It's a nice in between. Holy bass chords Batman! Well, they're mostly towards the end of the song, but still, they're very predominant then! As well as having the best guitar of the week, it has the best bass of the week too. While there aren't as many (or really any) HOPOs as the guitar part the chorus is roughly the same. Keys can pretty much be summed up in two words: Keys solo! Unfortunately, outside of that, there isn't much going on with this song. Oh well.
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Pick of the week: Only One
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
So it looks like someone at Harmonix accidentally put up a "Snoop Dogg Test Pack" in the marketplace. Could this be an indication that a Snoop Dogg pack is coming soon? It also seems that, through some URL hacking, people found the song Gangsta Luv so that seems to add further credibility to this rumour.

UPDATE: HMXhenry has said on RockBandAide that there is no additional Snoop Dogg coming to Rock Band any time soon. Oh well. As RBA pointed out though, the song Gangsta Luv may very well end up on the Rock Band Blitz list!

UPDATE 2: HMXhenry commented on RockBandAide again to say that Gangsta Luv isn't coming to Rock Band Blitz either. Oh well.

As I had mentioned at the end of my P!nk review, I won't be able to do a review for the DLC on April 24. I'm in England for a family function and, as such won't be near my Xbox. Sorry about this. I will still be updating the blog tomorrow with the new DLC announcement but I just won't be able to review it. There WILL be a review on May 1st though.

This is our first release in a while (and only third this year) to have more than 3 songs. Hopefully the weeks will start to get bigger over the next few releases. Just remember, we still haven't had an album yet! Will we like this DLC? Find out Tuesday!

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
Get the Party Started

Guitar on this song wasn't anything special. It's essentially just one strumming pattern with very few variations in it. It got uninteresting rather quickly. It does, however, feature Pro Guitar and Bass add-ons. If you're a Pro player who likes P!nk or stuff that isn't too hard and you're looking for a new song, get this one. If you like playing the same boring bass line over and over and over and over again then I strongly recommend this song to you! If on the other hand, you are a normal person who plays bass primarily then I would stay the hell away from this song. Seriously. It's awful. Keys on the other hand were fun, but then again, it's a generic pop song, I'd be shocked if the keys also sucked. If there is one this I hate, it's drum machines. I hate playing along to them in Rock Band and unless your band name has the words Nine Inch Nails in it, I generally hate hearing them in my songs.

Sober

You know, for a slower song, the guitar part is actually pretty good! It keeps itself interesting by adding a few HOPOs into the riff. It's a far superior guitar part to Get the Party Started, that's for sure! I feel that this could have gotten a Pro upgrade as well. Let's be honest here, the phrase "Wow, whoever plays bass in P!nk's band is quite amazing!" has been uttered about as much as "Wow, Axl Rose is a really humble guy who knows when a grudge has gone on too long!". The bass on this song is nothing short of really, really easy. It's less fun than Get the Party Started, and 5 minutes ago I didn't think that was a possibility. Sober's keys are a whole lot more fun than Sober's bass. It's very chord based but also features some fills that take you all over the keys. All in all it's a good gameplay experience. Please see my comment about drum machines from the Get the Party Started
review, nothing has changed. I do like this drum part a bit more
though. The non-chorus bits are actually not bad.

Please Don't Leave Me

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
Another guitar part that was better than I expected. Granted, it's still not as good as Sober but still fun none the less. It's another slower song but this one is much more chord based than the other two. The chords make it more difficult as there are quick changes between chord and single notes in the song. It is rather fun. So far, this is the best bass song of the week. It's actually interesting to play and changes up a fair amount. Keys were disappointing. Not bad, just disappointing. It's pretty much just some extended sustains played during the chorus part. Not great. Drums were actually pretty good. I think P!nk hired a drummer for this song. I could be wrong though, maybe it's just a good drum machine! Either way, it features an interesting drum part that uses the toms and cymbals interchangeably and will keep you on your toes when you play it. It's got that perfect balance of easy and hard!

Funhouse

This is the absolute best guitar song of the week. Completely worthy of a Pro add-on. Complete with an interesting, and incredibly fun, riff and an equally fun bridge section that is completely different from the rest of the song this guitar part is amazing. Highly recommend if you're a guitar player, even if you aren't a P!nk fan. Despite being the best guitar part of the week, it most certainly is NOT the best bass part of the week. It's just a simple riff repeated throughout. Yes, I know that that's most bass parts but I guess it's just so underwhelming when the guitar part is this fun piece with a couple changes to the pattern and then you get this bass part. It could just be me though. Keys are really good. It features a good riff and an AMAZING bridge! My favourite keys part of the week. Once again, please refer to my review of Get the Party started for what I think of the drums. I didn't like drum machines 20 minutes ago and I haven't warmed to them in that time frame.

Pick of the week: Please Don't Leave Me
Best instrument: Keys
What should you buy: Everything but Get the Party Started

Final thoughts: If you want your P!nk fix then I suggest just getting the Lego Rock Band export. It has So What on it (plus a bunch of other really good tracks!) and really, that song is better than any of these songs. That said, The pack actually wasn't bad. The three tracks from the Funhouse album are actually fun to play. Sorry about the lack of a vocal review this week, forgot my mic at my other place. There will be a vocal review on May 1st though for all you diehard vocalists!

Oh, also, I'm in England for the next week so unfortunately I won't be able to write up a review for the DLC on 4/24. I will be doing a review on 5/1 though so until then, cheers!
The Rock Herohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03530684359993148639noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8808879650049348642.post-2426558694059990602012-04-10T19:00:00.000-04:002012-05-29T16:08:41.795-04:00DLC 4/10: Slayer<div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: center;">

First off, I'd like to say that THIS IS HARD! Well, maybe not on vocals, but on everything else. OK, there aren't any keys, but the other instruments are hard! Then again, I guess the bass isn't too difficult either. Guitar, however, IS very difficult. If you loved Raining Blood in GH3 and/or GH:SH because of it's difficulty then you're in luck! It keeps (almost) all of that challenge that you loved! If you stayed away from Raining Blood for that same reason then you're in luck too because it's significantly less overcharted than it was in Guitar Hero! The end (Flood for you Guitar Hero players) where it's filled with strum lanes instead of the blistering HOPO and trill filled outro of GH3 was a tad disappointing though because of just how easy it was compared to Guitar Hero. I'll admit, I like the bass more than the guitar. Yes, it wasn't as difficult as the guitar, but at the same time, it wasn't the note extravaganza that guitar was meaning you could actually have fun with it and not constantly have to concentrate on the notes to make sure you are hitting the right thing. Then again, I'm the sort of person that enjoys easier songs to hard songs. Give me Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, Pt. 1 over Beast and the Harlot any day, and that has nothing to do with the fact that I love The Flaming Lips! If you are someone who has masochistic tendencies then you will love drumming this song. It's blistering fast bass drum pattern with complicated, and fast, tom and cymbal hits is sure to make every muscle in your body cramp up every time! Vocals are all talkies. The most enjoyable bit of the song is he beginning and the end where we have a cowbell section!

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
South of Heaven - Chart

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
The guitar on this song was nowhere near as hard as Raining Blood, but then again, it's also the only song of the week that's not Satan/goat tiered on guitar. That's not to say it wasn't hard, because it did have some hard solos, but everything outside of that was pretty easy. The solos were still very difficult though. The first solo requires some fast strumming and fast fingers to hit the HOPOs in between. The second solo features loads of trills, strum lanes and, like the first, quick HOPOs. Bass on this song was, like Raining Blood, more enjoyable than guitar, and for the same reasons too! It's challenging, don't get me wrong, but manageable for someone who isn't someone who can FC Through the Fire and the Flames blindfolded. It starts out simple enough then flows into a quicker series alt-strum notes. The drums here, unlike Raining Blood, resemble something somewhat manageable. It's still really hard, but that doesn't mean that someone won't one day be able to do it! The hard part about this drum pattern isn't the ridiculous bass pedal but the fact that it's filled with drum rolls. Vocals are fairly easy. It's all either talkies or a monotone pitch. There is a cowbell section though!

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
Seasons In The Abyss - Chart (EDIT: For some reason the video didn't upload. I'll try again on the weekend)

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
Another easy enough song. Like South of Heaven, the only real challenge here was the solo and while it was challenging, I don't feel the song should be Satan/goat tiered. It's sort of like We Built This City in that it's Satan/goat tiered only because of one section where as if that wasn't there it'd be 3 or 4 dots at best. Yes, that section does mean something but it shouldn't bring the whole tier up because of it. This song should only be a 5 dot song, in my opinion. The solo is still very hard though and features, like the solos in South of Heaven, lots of quick HOPOs and strumming. This bass part isn't too great. It's just not that interesting. There is some quick strums but it's just wasn't that strong of a bass part. Not bad, but not as fun as the guitar and not interesting enough to keep it great. The drums were also manageable. Not too many fills or fast bass pedal blasts. At the same time though, I didn't find it too fun to play. Vocals are like South of Heaven. Talkies or monotone. It does have harmonies though! That's nice.

Best instrument: Guitar if you like difficulty, bass if you're not a huge fan of hard stuff.
What should you buy: Get the pack if you like really hard stuff or Slayer. Otherwise, skip it.
Everybody's Fool

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
Guitar on this song is absolutely great! It's simple enough so that it's easily approachable but has some incredibly challenging parts thrown into it, the intro of this song is one of those moments. It's filled with HOPOs that are very reminiscent of Landslide, just quicker! Bass, however, is a different story. Unfortunately for this song it has a very boring bass part. The bits it does have aren't bad. Sadly though, there just isn't enough playing in this song for there to be any fun factor during the bass part of the song. Considering how prominent keyboards and synthesizers are in Evanescence's music I was expecting this song to have a really good keyboard part. I don't know if it's just having my expectations too high or if the keyboard part is legitimately not good but I did not enjoy this keyboard part. It used incredibly simplistic extended sustains throughout and outside of a couple parts where you are playing notes across the keys there isn't too much else going on for this song and that's a shame. Drums sucked. Simple as that. The only bit about this that was remotely enjoyable was the intro and that's because it's the only bit of the song that was any different from drum parts we've gotten in the last couple of months. Really, I'm SICK of the exact same beat in pretty much every song. Seriously drummers! Learn something new! I always find it very hard to review vocals when writing this but on this song I can say that I do have a complaint in that keyboard is charted to harmonies. Why they needed to do this when you play it on the keyboard already is beyond me, unless of course there actually is singing and I just can't hear it.

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
Lithium

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
Lithium is a fairly slow song and because of this, the guitar part during the verses being pretty much all HOPOs is less daunting. That being said, it doesn't make it any less entertaining to play and it is a strong guitar part. While the speed being slow is part of the reason why the guitar part is strong, it's also part of the reason why the bass is so weak. Like Everybody's Fool there just isn't enough playing during the song to stop the bass part from sucking so much. This song redeems keys for this week after the bland Everybody's Fool. It features a great riff played throughout the song that takes you across the keys. It's really enjoyable to play and like with the guitar, the slower speed makes it less daunting to attempt. Drums on this song were rather boring. Once again, it's the same drum part we've gotten many, many times the only difference being that's it's slowed down. I was bored throughout the song when playing the drum part. All I can say about this vocal part is boy does Amy Lee have range and if you don't then you're going to have a tough time with this song.

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
What You Want

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
This was the only song of the week that wasn't really good on guitar. It's one of those "just play different chords to the beat" type of songs. The only bit that was fun was the bridge when the chords sped up and what you were playing was different. Outside of that, I'd pass on this song if you only really play guitar. If you primarily play bass however, I'd defiantly pick this song up. It's great because it does it's own little thing so you don't feel like you're playing a dumbed down version of the guitar part. It has plenty of little fills in there to keep it interesting as well. The only real enjoyable part of the keys on this song was the chorus when you were playing a challenging, yet fun riff. During the verses the keys were actually annoying to play because of the awkward speed of the fast bits. The drum review is pretty much the same as Everybody's Fool in that the only fun thing was the intro. The rest really sucked. Another song that'll really challenge vocalists. Fortunately the challenge is worth is.

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
Second Chance (Chart)

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
Second Chance was a rather easy song on guitar. Sadly though, there are parts of it that can feel TOO easy as well as become repetitive. Because of this the song becomes tedious to play. Bass however, is a completely different story. It features quite a few fills throughout the song and a few pattern changes too. Keys on this song were fairly simple except for a little section right after the second chorus where it takes you all over your keyboard! Drums were also good to play. It was a simple drum pattern with a fair amount of variation to it. Vocals were pretty average at best. Nothing too special about them.

Pros:

Incredibly good bass.

Drums that change up enough to avoid becoming dull.

Has Pro Guitar and Bass available.

Cons:

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

Guitar can feel repetitive after a while.

Keys are pretty simple.

Vocals are average.

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
The Crow and the Butterfly (Chart)

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

This, along with last week's "Smooth" by Santana, have got to be some of the best guitar songs released all year. It features a guitar part that has it's share of complexity without becoming incredibly difficult. It features two charted solo sections as well! Really, this one should have gotten the Pro upgrade over Second Chance. The bass on this song is OK, that is unless it's while the guitar is playing one of the solos. Then it changes up and becomes more interesting. Keys here were very chord based and very difficult. Just as an aside, the keys during the guitar solo, in my opinion, sounded like they belonged in a Billy Joel song. On this song, like Second Chance, the drums feature a simple pattern with a slight variation. Unlike Second Chance though, the drums were boring (except for the bit during the guitar solo). The vocals on this song were, like Second Chance, average. Nod bad but not good.

Pros:

One of the best guitar parts of the year (so far!).

Drums are pretty good

Bass starts out OK but gets better.

Cons:

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

Keys are very chord based and very difficult.

Drums are boring.

Vocals are average.

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
Bully (Chart)

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
On guitar this was fairly difficult. If you are looking for a nice challenge I'd suggest picking this one up. The song featured a solo section that was easily the hardest part of the song! Bass wise, this song is pretty much the guitar riff repeated during the song. The riff was fairly difficult on guitar and it's no different on bass. Fortunately it's still rather enjoyable to play. On this song the keys did one of two things. They either had you doing the main riff or they had you tapping one key very quickly. Sadly, neither one was enjoyable. A bit of advice, unless you can play drums well STAY AWAY FROM THIS SONG! It's severely undertiered at a tier 2 difficulty. It should be at least a 4. Possibly a 5. This song's vocals were probably the best of the week.

Pros:

Guitar is a nice challenge.

Bass is just as good as guitar.

Best vocals of the week

Cons:

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

Keys suck.

So do drums.

Pick of the week: The Crow and the Butterfly

Best instrument: Bass

What should you get: Get the pack. It's pretty good overall.

Final thoughts: Crow and the Butterfly is the best track here across all instruments. Second Chance is also pretty good. Bully is probably the worst one here but that still doesn't mean it's not enjoyable. I'd get the whole pack, even if you don't like Shinedown.
The Rock Herohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03530684359993148639noreply@blogger.com0
