Gee, another three song week. But hey, at least there's still DLC!
Men at Work - "Down Under"
Men at Work - "Overkill"
Santana (ft. Rob Thomas) - "Smooth" - Pro Available
So, did we like this week's DLC?
Men at Work's Down Under (Chart)
This song has a rather repetitive
guitar part, it's not too much fun. Not bad, but certainly not good (and
that's a shame because I was looking forward to this one the most!).
Fortunately for this song, all hope is not lost because the bass is fun
to play! On drums this song is incredibly fun. Pro drums has a nice switch between the cymbals and the toms that's sure to keep you on your toes! This song is HARD on keys! Even harder on Pro keys! Stay away from it unless you are fairly decent at the instrument. On vocals this song gets really, really, REALLY low!
Pros:
- Incredibly fun bass.
- Great drum part.
- Hard keys.
- Fun vocals.
- Guitar's not too much fun.
- Really, really, REALLY hard Pro Keys.
Men at Work's Overkill (Chart)
The guitar part on this song is
infinitely more fun than Down Under. It wasn't as repetitive as Down
Under, it even has a solo! Bass wise this song was, while not as fun as
the guitar, still enjoyable enough to play. Drums were quite repetitive throughout the song. Outside of a couple parts during the chorus it was relatively the same pattern throughout. Keys were relatively boring during the song. Quite a bit of repetition throughout. As I said during Down Under, MAN THAT SONG IS LOW ON VOCALS!
Pros:
- Guitar chart that's not bad
- Good bass part
- Repetitive drums
- Boring keys
- Un-enjoyable vocals
Santana's Smooth (Chart)
My least favourite part of the song |
Easily the hardest (but the fun kind
of hard!) guitar part of the week, but really, this is Carlos Santana
we're talking about here! The song, in my opinion, is under-tiered on
guitar at tier 4. It's filled with challenging HOPO parts throughout the
riff and it's two solos! Bass was just as fun as guitar. It
constantly changed to keep it interesting and wasn't too hard too keep
it from being fun. Drums weren't all too fun... until the outro! Then the drums undergo a massive pattern change that'll take you all over your drum kit! Keys on this song were enjoyable. While they did stay pretty much the same throughout the song they did change up a bit toward the end. Vocals on this song were, in my opinion, fun to sing. And I'm now reminded about how we need some Matchbox Twenty.
Pros:
- Really fun guitar
- Bass that's just as fun
- Drums are good towards the end.
- Keys are a nice challenge.
- Vocals are fun.
- Has Pro Guitar and Bass.
Cons:
- Even though it's out of their control, the sorting is still kind of a bummer.
- Some parts of the drum chart feel undercharted.
- Drum chart isn't too fun until the end.
- Pro keys are *too* hard.
Best instrument: Guitar
Pick of the Week: Smooth
What should you buy: Everything. Smooth and Down Under
Final thoughts: Smooth was hands down the best song this week. Really good on pretty much everything. My one little quip about the song was that, as I mentioned, the song won't sort as being by Santana (so it won't be with Black Magic Woman) but I do completely get that it's out of Harmonix's control.
